Nikki Heath (MSc)
Performance Psychologist

Nikki founded Symbiotics in 1996 and is now the Director of Resource Group’s Symbiotic Performance Solutions division since the company was acquired in 2014. Nikki designed and developed the ADAPT tool of suites as a result of her work in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology and Sports Psychology. This combined approach has led to Nikki working internationally with Blue Chip clients in government, sport and aviation industries, including major airlines and training organisations, UK and International Air Forces, UK Security Service, Formula One amongst many others. Nikki has a proven track record for designing innovative and effective solutions for human performance in the workplace, including system design, change management, training and assessment solutions. She has built up a reputation for delivering exceptional service with products and services that work. Nikki has been on international working groups for National Counter-Terrorism, Federal Aviation Authority, NATO, British Olympic Association Psychological Advisory Group and is a regular speaker at conferences.

Les Garside-Beattie (OBE)
Training and Selection & Assessment Consultant

Les brings extensive military experience to the team gained from his 31-year Royal Air Force career; he achieved the rank of Group Captain prior to leaving the Service. He has commanded a number of units, including RAF Wittering and RAF Valley. He gained operational experience in Iraq and has extensive fast-jet flying and flying training backgrounds. Les has also been employed in MoD Operational Requirements, Integrated Project Team and User Customer appointments. Since leaving the Service, Les has been involved in the needs analysis, design and development of a number of projects; of particular note is his extensive involvement in a number of individual and collective training activities where the use of the synthetic environment has enabled training effectiveness. In addition, Les has been actively involved in Symbiotics’ Selection & Assessment activities where he has fulfilled a leading role with a number of key international organisations.

Karen Moore (CPsychol, CSci, AFBPsS, EuroPsy, MSCP, MIoD)
Principal Occupational Psychologist

Karen has recently joined Symbiotics, she has previously been responsible for the development of psychology services within a number of sectors, particularly assessment processes for all levels of recruiting and internal promotion, from graduates to board level positions.
As a holder of the BPS certificate Specialist in Test Use: Occupational, Karen has a strong interest in the appropriate application of psychometrics in assessment and development and has explored the use of a variety of measures in various situations. Collaborating with an international test publisher, Karen was instrumental in creating the first International Conference on Emotional Intelligence, held in London in 2007 and subsequently around the world. Karen is currently serving as Chief Supervisor for the BPS Qualification in Occupational Psychology (Stage 2) – the profession’s route to Chartership.

Scott Morton LLB (Hons)
Principal Training Consultant

Scott has recently joined Symbiotics to lead their blue light and police services. Scott has 25 years experience in the criminal justice sector in different practitioner roles. Scott first entered that sector as a detective investigating serious acts of criminality, after leaving the police service he undertook legal studies to qualify as a Barrister and he was called to the Bar in 2008. After time at the criminal bar Scott established a small training practice delivering training consultancy services to both public and commercial sector organisations. Scott has delivered a broad range of investigative skills and legal training programmes and change management programmes to law enforcement agencies in the United Kingdom and Internationally. Scott also acts as an external advisor to a number of police working groups regarding the impact of legislation on its practitioner workforce.

Kelvin Patterson (GCGI)
Training Consultant

Kelvin joined Symbiotics in May 2011 as a Training Consultant after completing 32 years in the RAF. During his career he has carried out specialist recovery operations in support of the Air Accident Investigation Bureau, developed new training programmes in support of Out of Area Operations, led procurement teams throughout Europe, and is accredited as a pan defence human factors facilitator, responsible for the delivery of this training across all services. He brings to Symbiotics extensive engineering training experience, knowledge of Defence Systems Approach to Training and over 20 years’ experience as an instructor in both civil and military environments. Since joining Symbiotics he has developed and delivered training on Heavy and Medium based ISTAR to the British Army, mapping, surveillance and video wall software, CCTV, computer networking and Human Factors training to multinational companies and the UN.

Neil Graham
Training Consultant

Neil joined Symbiotics in May 2013 as a Technical Instructor after completing 22 years’ service in the RAF and Royal Navy. Starting as a Radio Operator in the Navy and eventually becoming an ICT Technician in the RAF. He has worked in various specialist Tri Service and Multi National units on a wide variety of communications systems. Qualified as a Personal Safety instructor, he was responsible for delivering training to Defence Survival School Instructors. On retiring from the military Neil qualified and delivered a number of SIA security courses whilst working within the Nuclear Security industry. Since joining Symbiotics he has delivered training on Heavy and Medium based ISTAR to the British Army, mapping, surveillance and video wall software, CCTV and computer networking. He has also qualified in English Language teaching and assisted in the course design and delivery of Maritime and Technical English courses being delivered to International military personnel.

Jill Edkins
English Language Trainer 

Gaining a BA (Hons) in English/Drama/French and then training as a TEFL teacher in Paris, Jill developed her craft working in the Canary Islands, North America and Spain teaching English to business professionals, as well as collaborating on British Council English student drama events. After studying for a Diploma, she held her first responsibility post as an Assistant Director and then Pedagogical Advisor and Senior Business Teaching Advisor. She has designed and devised a variety of business English courses for many multi-national companies and Ministries as well as being charged with the supervision of setting up, running and providing final assessment of multiple company group programmes. She has also carried out level testing for many bodies, entry requirement level for professional posts and company language audits. Jill joined Symbiotics Performance Solutions in 2014 and is currently engaged in entry requirement level testing as well as delivering English language training for Special Purposes to military students.

Hannah Clilverd (MSc)
Senior Psychology Consultant 

Hannah is a professional and dedicated psychology consultant who joined Symbiotic Performance Solutions in 2009, after completing a degree in Psychology from the University of York with first class honors. Hannah has over 6 years experience applying psychological theory and understanding into the world of human performance, specialising in Selection and Assessment. Having gained the BPS ‘Test User: Occupational, Ability and Personality’ qualification, she has extensive experience developing and delivering psychometric and behavioural assessments. Hannah has worldwide experience both delivering and training other industry professionals in the use of the ADAPT suite of selection and assessment tools, working with a wide range of commercial, military and private companies, airlines and training organisations. An experienced interviewer and test developer, she is skilled in assisting clients to understand the impact of not only personality and skills, but also motivation, culture and technology, within the selection process and workplace, to provide bespoke and intelligent assessment solutions. Having completed her MSc in Occupational Psychology in 2014, Hannah is currently working towards Chartered status.

Emma Akhurst (MSc)
Psychology Consultant

Emma joined Symbiotic Performance Solutions in 2013 after completing a degree in Psychology, with first class honors from the University of West of England. She has been primarily involved with the assessment of candidates’ suitability against a variety of roles and organisations. Co-ordinating worldwide assessment programmes, Emma has been gaining experience in the world of human performance, focusing on Selection and Assessment. Since completing her MSc in Occupational Psychology in 2014, she has been assisting with the development and delivery of the ADAPT suite of selection and assessment tools within a wide range of commercial and private companies, airlines and training organisations. Gaining the BPS ‘Test User: Occupation, Ability and Personality’ qualification, she has experience researching and assisting with psychometric and behavioural assessments to understand the impact of not only personality and skills but also motivation and culture within the selection process and workplace.

Laura Buffin
ADAPT Consultant 

Laura generated an interest in human behaviour during her degree in Sports Therapy from the University of Central Lancashire in 2010. Through her degree, Laura gained expertise in understanding human performance from a sporting perspective, which she is now applying to aviation through her current role. Laura joined Symbiotic Performance Solutions in 2014 and is currently undertaking the BPS ‘Test User: Occupation, Ability and Personality' qualification to enhance her fundamental understanding of human behaviour and psychometric assessments, in order for her to further assist with the delivery and development of the ADAPT suite of assessment tools. Laura is an experienced Skype interviewer, assessing candidates worldwide for their role and organisational fit and in analysing data and writing candidate reports, Laura shows an understanding of the impact of personality, skills, motivation and culture on performance in the workplace. Laura also has logistical experience dealing with candidate requirements and co-ordinating travel for her colleagues to their training sites around the world.
