Resource Group’s Aviation Technical Training division (LRTT Ltd) is pleased to congratulate apprentice Aaron Duckworth for winning bronze for aircraft engineering at the Worldskills UK competition in Birmingham. After passing the regional and national heats, Aaron performed various tasks over the three day final. His success has earned him a place on ‘Squad UK’ to compete against more than 1000 of the most talented apprentices in the world, in Abu Dhabi, 2017.
The Worldskills competition aims to raise standards, esteem and levels of expertise in further education, apprenticeships and skills through competition activities and local initiatives. Tasks in the Birmingham final included sheet metal work, aircraft inspections and checks, along with theoretical work.
Andrew Gavan, Head of Apprenticeships at Resource Group’s Aviation Technical Training division (LRTT Ltd) said: “We are delighted that Aaron has performed so well in this competition and he has beaten entrants from organisations such as the RAF, Royal Navy, BAE Systems, Qinetiq and Airbus to name a few. Competitions like this are vitally important in encouraging individuals to excel at what they do and participation is a massive encouragement to their esteem and expertise.”
Aaron was awarded his CAT A licence with Resource Group in 2014 and has since completed all of his CAT B modules, graduating from his Thomson Airways apprenticeship in November 2015. He is now based out of Manchester, Birmingham, Luton and Gatwick working on B757, B737 and B787 aircraft.
