Aircraft Structural Handskills

Course description

This course will provide participants with the basic skills and knowledge to manufacture and assemble aircraft structural repair components in accordance with engineering work sheets and drawings contained in structural repair manuals (SRM's).

This course can be used towards CAA requirements for practical experience.

Course Content

Phase 1 – Manufacture

  • Quality in aeronautical engineering
  • Aeronautical Metals and component manufacture
  • Workshop equipment and safety practices
  • Aircraft solid and blind fasteners
  • Practical exercises

Phase 2 - Repair

  • Repair of aircraft conventional structures
  • Damage tolerances and SRM data
  • Trimming and drilling
  • Practical exercises
  • End of course examination and debrief

An examination to test underpinning knowledge will be conducted at the end of course and practical exercises will be assessed and marked at the end of each phase. The pass mark for each will be 75%.

Course objectives

To provide licenced engineers and technicians with the much needed exposure to the repair of aircraft structure giving them the skills and underpinning knowledge to conduct minor structural repairs.
